Our concept centers on the connection.
Despite its mission to be „A Museum for
All,“ the building felt isolated. Our goal
was to open it up, remove barriers, and
enhance accessibility. We redesigned the
ground 昀氀oor, replacing windows and doors
with open arches and arcades, creating a
seamless connection between the courtyard,
the city, and the Elbe. Public spaces at
ground level encourage interaction and
engagement. The main entrance aligns
with the urban axis, leading to a doubleheight reception area with views of the Elbe.
Exhibition spaces on the upper 昀氀oors are
connected through en昀椀lades and courtyardfacing balconies, ensuring a continuous
dialogue with the public. ¹
